Postby nanook » Thu Feb 07, 2013 5:06 am

Shut down my bot for the night. Many bets not converting to SP for no apparent reason. Be careful!!!

Ive Been having the same problem, but i've discoverd in my case it's because allot of them are under the minimum bet size.

this is not because i use small stakes, it's just that when my offsets are getting placed the are often tiny amounts as my money is nibbled at.

I made a suggestion on a fix here.

No this is something different. Below is a sample from my spreadsheet when the problem was occurring. I'm using VBA to trigger the bets with a 1 second refresh rate. The bets are all triggered on the same refresh within a for-next loop. Here the last two bets went through and the rest are stuck as pending - it remained like this for over 3 minutes until I switched off the program. I'm Canadian so my minimum sp liability is $30 - I'm well above that on all these bets. Anyway I think that would result in an error message in the bet ref column instead of "pending". Curiously whenever the problem occurred, it would have the same structure as below - the bets that went through were grouped at the bottom of the list and all the rest showed pending. There is no trace of the "pending" bets in my Betfair bet history - its as if the API didn't receive them. I wonder if it could be an internet connection glitch? The program ran today without any issues but I need to find a way to control this possibility via VBA. My idea at the moment is to have a "shut down" flag at the start of the VBA code that would be set if this "pending" scenario occurs after the bets are placed and this would prevent any more interaction with the spreadsheet. This would limit the problem to the current race - not ideal but the best I can think of right now.

Trigger Odds Stake Bet ref Bet time
LAY-SP 1.05 1051 PENDING 22:45:50
LAY-SP 1.05 1293 PENDING 22:45:50
LAY-SP 1.05 1142 PENDING 22:45:50
LAY-SP 1.05 1249 PENDING 22:45:50
LAY-SP 1.05 1002 PENDING 22:45:50
LAY-SP 1.05 1271 PENDING 22:45:50
LAY-SP 1.05 1173 PENDING 22:45:50
LAY-SP 1.05 1298 PENDING 22:45:50
LAY-SP 1.05 1301 25003837072 22:45:51

I noticed the problem on one US race (the one above) and two AUS races in about a two hour time frame. This was mixed in with races where the problem didn't occur.

I think I described the problem incorrectly in my first post. It looks like the problem wasn't that the bets didn't convert to SP - they didn't make it onto the exchange to begin with. Maybe the same thing would have happened if they were regular lay bets.

I put some code in my VBA as mentioned above to detect this situation and stop betting on other markets in the quickpick list if it occurs. Haven't seen the problem since.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
