New Version Response Time

Postby jc0r » Mon Apr 01, 2019 5:46 pm

Hi

Just wondering with regards to latency. The old version used to display your refresh rate at the top and then in brackets to the right it would display your latency. The new version says AR then the figure in brackets is always (0) and any machine i use. This obviously cannot be right. I know if you click on the refresh rate you can see the graph but the latency line is so small its difficult to make any use out of it. Is there any plans to get the latency figure back in brackets as it is more important to me than the refresh rate.

Thanks

Hi,

There are 2 methods for getting the price and bet orders updated in Betting Assistant.
The traditional method is to request (otherwise known as Polling) new price and bet data from the API server at specific timed intervals.
The new recommended method is Price Streaming and Order Streaming which allows the software to subscribe to a market and then the prices and bet orders are automatically sent to the software as and when they change.

With Price Streaming turned on (which is the default setting) the software will ask the Betfair API server to send the price data as and when it changes for the markets that you have open.
The Stream data is cached and prices updated in the software display at the refresh rate that you have set.
However, there is an option to use "Full Stream" which can be selected from Betting Options.
When Full Stream is on the software will not use the refresh rate but instead will update the prices on screen as and when they change in the stream.
So when you have Full Stream on and the market is not very active there may be seconds or even minutes between refreshes if nothing has changed, but conversely if the market is very active such as an in play horse race then you will see the prices updating rapidly even more quickly than is possible using the old polling method.

With Streaming on you cannot know how long it took for the data to reach you after it was sent and thereby the latency next to AR will always display as zero.

If you prefer to use the old polling method where the latency can be tracked then turn off streaming.
You can click on the the green ticks next to where it displays PS and OS and they will toggle to red crosses indicating that streaming is off.

Regards,
Mark

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
