Help with automating with excel

Postby Pedromole » Thu Jul 26, 2007 10:46 pm

I am after a bit of advice ..... as someone who has only traded on the ladder interface and manually traded in running I am completely ignorant of interfacing with excel and automating things with BA.

Sometimes at the moment I manually select races in which I am interested. I wait for the race to go 'in play' and then lay the entire field at say 1.2 so that any runners that drop to this level are picked up. Hardly a new idea and one which lots of people follow. However, The whole manual process is a little tedious and it seems to me that it could be automated.
So my question is: Can I get BA to automatically switch to the next race in my pick list as soon as it goes 'in play' and then trigger bets into the market from excel? Important point is that I want it to fire in fairly quickly for all runners after the race starts to ensure that I am near the front of the queue rather than wait for the price to begin trading before the bet fires, I only want to lay each runner once and I want to keep all the other bets live so that if more than one runner drops to that price then it is picked up as well.

Is this possible? And how the heck do I do it? I have looked at the sample spreadsheets including the 'trigger betting' one but to be honest I am a little out of my depth.

Any advice gratefully received.
Cheers

I thought there was a function in BA itself to Lay the field. If you don't want to hit a button to do it, there is a trigger called LAYFIELD from Excel to do it.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
