BACK to LAY and at the post

Postby bolpx001 » Sat Apr 06, 2019 10:46 am

Hi All
Two quick questions I hope somebody can help with. The first concerns betfair. If I have £1000 in in my account and I BACK £500 on leggs11 in the 2:30 at 5.00 and then LAY 500 at 4.00 Will the bets go through or will they be declined. Normally when I want to know something like this I would experiment with small stakes but in this instance if the LAY section of the bet failed and the horse lost it would be disastrous. For my second question, is there any way to get a notification from betfair/BA when horses are at the post? I can see it on my phone app but as all my betting is automated I need/want to get the info into excel, ideally through VBA and BA
I hope the above makes sense and that some kind person will reach out and advise
Thank you - Paul

If your bets are submitted at the same time they'd be rejected as you woulnd't have enough funds to cover the £1500 liability from the lay @ 4.

If submitted separately the back would go thru but the lay would still be rejected unless the back bet had been matched.

You could consider offset trigger betting if you're doing it manually because the program would submit the appropriate offset bets each time the back bet gets matched. If you want to fully automate the matched status of bets can be sent to a separate MyBets excel sheet.

The race status "at the post" etc has been requested a few times but still isn't available thru the program so if you really need it you'd have to write some VBA pull the data off the web site on each refresh.

Thanks as always Captain Sensible, that is what I thought might happen. The at the post would be really nice but I have too much going on to code and test it. Much appreciate the reply.
best regards Paul

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
