Moving from Office 2010 to Office 365

Postby Deestar » Thu Jul 23, 2020 9:28 am

Hi all

Anyone had any experience moving from Excel 2010 to Office 365? Everything I have sits on 2010 versions of excel. Support for this ends in October and I am thinking about taking the plunge to upgrade, but as i do everything via excel link to BA I'm concerned that shifting may have unintended consequences.

Help with any of the following questions appreciated:

Does BA work in the same way with 365?
In converting will all my current macro enabled sheets work in the same way or will I potentially have to re-code them?
Ditto Personal macro file?
Presumably all the non macro based files will open in the 365 without corruption?

Thanks in advance
D

Hi,

As far as I am aware you should not have any issue.
I use Office 365 and the Worksheets that I had created previously in older versions of Excel continue to work without any intervention.
The one thing I would say about Office 365 is that you get OneDrive included and Betting Assistant doesn't work if you put the Excel files on OneDrive.
Open the Excel files on your local drive.

Regards,
Mark

So I've taken the plunge with this and I'm instantly regretting it.

I've upgraded to Excel 365. All my excel documents are saved on the local drive and I have ensured that all files are saved to the local computer by default. I'm encountering the following errors.

When I log multiple sheets using the quick link they load as per normal (albeit more slowly than before). There are several errors getting written to the diagnostic log (see below) and one to Unhandled_Exception file.

If I manually try and add a new page (as I routinely do/did) and then try and link it to one of the open workbooks in the Workbook name drop down list only the first workbook shows. (I have 8 open) Previously using Excel 2010 I could selected any of the open workbooks and link a new sheet manually to one of the sheets within it.

Thanks in advance for your help

Re: Moving from Office 2010 to Office 365

Postby Deestar » Mon Sep 28, 2020 8:31 am

A couple of further things.

I'm getting the same error if i try to load each sheet manually. The dropdown in the Log Current Bets/Workbook name still only shows the first workbook that was attached. Same ActiveX and Com errors showing in the diagnostic log.

The excel trigger files are consuming more than double the RAM than the equivalent Excel 2010 files were.

Any help appreciated. I should add that this is happening on both my laptop running WIndows 10, and my Server which is running Windows Server 2019 I've currently rolled back to Excel 2010 on the server and its working as per normal.

Thanks

My development PC is using Office 365 so am disappointed to hear this. I will investigate and get back to you as soon as I can. It might take a while unfortunately.

No problem, I've reverted back to Excel 2010 but obviously support for that runs out in early October.

Windows 2012 R2 instead of server 2019 will reduce the cpu usage significantly
Unfortunately office 2019/365 is much heavier than 2010 but 2010 is still very good (and colorful)
I also never managed to get this "log current bets / drop down" to show all the open workbooks, I only see the first one

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
