Previous Excel file wont open on new PC

Postby vanbuuts » Sat Aug 29, 2020 8:30 am

Hi all, I have had to buy another new laptop after issues with my last.

I have a current Excel file that fires my bets, I remember last time I had issues and I had to install Selenium(sp?!?) after getting an error message.

This time the file doesn't even open or throw an error. I just get the blue loading circle and the file closes after a minute or so.

I guess this is somehow related to the BettingAssistantCom add in via vBA but without being able to open my file, how can I tick it?

Has anyone encountered similar or know of a way to get around this?

How are you trying to open this fie?

A common issue with new machines is that the full path differs from the old machine meaning that any quick links/shortcuts copied over won't work
Just plugging away!

I’ve just emailed it to myself and have saved it so shouldn’t be any issue due to file path

Literally just trying to open it manually - not linking via gruss

is there a workbook_open event that causes the problem?
if so open the file with the macros disabled

It doesn’t give any error. Just attempts to open for about 60 seconds before crashing.

I’ll need the macros though to run the routine and the file worked perfectly on my old laptop

disable the macros and try to open it just to check if it opens ok
you can enable macros again later
Resend the file
Test an older version of the file

I remember that I had problems opening files with duplicated macros in them
but I don't remember if I got error messages or file was freezing

Eventually found out it was due to office service pack 3. Installed that and it worked! Didn’t have it on my old pc which makes it even stranger

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
