getting running time from distance

Postby dflowe » Sat Oct 24, 2020 1:39 pm

Hi Garry, I found this a long time ago but cant seem to find it again and wondered if you could advise,
the second part is returning an error, part 1 returns 2m3 or 6f etc no prob.
AA1 (reads cell A1 end gives the distance of the race-eg 2M)
=IF(MID(A1,FIND(":",A1)+6,1)="",MID(A1,FIND(":",A1)+4,2),MID(A1,FIND(":",A1)+4,4)) (this part seems to do as it should)

BT2 (reads cell AA1 and calculates distance in furlongs-eg 16)
=IF(TYPE(FIND("m",AA1))=16,LEFT(AA1,LEN(AA1)-FIND("f",AA1)+1)*1,IF(TYPE(FIND("f",AA1))=16,LEFT(AA1,LEN(AA1)-FIND("m",AA1)+1)*8,LEFT(AA1,FIND("m",AA1)-1)*8+MID(AA1,FIND("m",AA1)+1,FIND("f",AA1)-FIND("m",AA1)*1-1))) (this returns an error but i cant see where)

then you have to place a final formula which depends on how much you estimate the time of a furlong -eg 11.5 sec

so it is 11.5*BT2

thanks Dave

Osknows posted a function a while back to get the distance in furlongs, much better than using a formula

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
