New version 48d maxing out cpu on azure vps

Postby kentishnick » Tue Jan 12, 2021 3:55 pm

BA updated to 48d on my vps this afternoon. With popup open and BF stream, the cpu is at times maxing out to 100%. Ladders are sticky, and horses in stream are running in slow motion.
It's a MS Azure vps running windows server 2016 datacenter, 2 x Intel Xeon Platinum 8272CL cpus @ 2.60GHz and 8 GB of RAM.
BA was working perfectly ok yesterday.
I only have BA running on the vps.
Any advice appreciated.

When you say "Betfair stream" are you referring to Betfair live video?

This version has an update to the built in browser that displays video. Some users have reported an issue with this on VPS.

1. Is the CPU only high when displaying live stream?

2. There is a new options tab in preferences "Live Video". You can choose to use Google Chrome externally. You need to be logged into the Betfair website through Google Chrome for this to function.

Live BF video via Gruss, and yes, CPU usage shoots up when I open the live video.

I will install Chrome and see how that goes.

I'm definitely having similar CPU issues here on my VPS - Windows Server 2019. I don't use the live video.

I have 9 markets linked each to a different workbook, all on full stream, CPU usage rarely hit 100%, but got close when all sheets were are running live markets.

New version is currently running CPU up to 100% with only a couple of sheets in live markets. It seems like some background process as the CPU shoots up even when all linked markets are closed/suspended.

How can I roll back to prior version?

Thanks

I'll look into it. In the meantime you can install version 1.3.0.47 here. You'll need to create a shortcut to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Betting Assistant\Betting Assistant.exe" to prevent the auto update.

Do you use the option "Process triggers for full stream when no price updates" when linking to Excel?

Having re-installed v47 the first thing I notice is that there are no longer multiple "windows host process rundll32" showing up in the task manager. There were 4 of them with v48. They weren't using CPU but were taking up a bit of RAM. Don't know if its related.....

CPU usage under v47 is back to what it was.

I reinstalled 48d from the link you provided Gary.
Total CPU usage now running at about 50%, with BA and the video feed via Gruss averaging around 20%.

So the issue is resolved for you? Is this around what it was in version 47?

Yes, for the me issue is closed.
The usage with v47 was lower, and ladders and BF live video via Gruss seemed a lot smoother, no freezing / sticking of ladders.

48d is still more CPU hungry than 47 for me.

Windows host process (rundll32) (32 bit) continues.

5 of them are present on loading BA, 4 of which are using 100mb of memory each. Screenshot attached.

If I manually click on a market in the tab that loads with BA the 4 big ones disappear, but if I delete the landing tab and create a new a tab and enter a market they remain.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
