Bets Partially Matching - Sometimes

Postby glider » Fri Jun 22, 2007 8:50 am

Not sure if this is a bug or just the way Betfair works but....................

I am using the ladder interface and I am trying to Back £100. Sometimes the whole amount is matched in 1 chunk, sometimes I see it matched in 2 or 3 chunks and then the tick offset is fired on the Lay side. No problem with that but sometimes I get a partial match of say £6.42 and then a lay bet is fired for £6.42.

I am glad that the lay bet is matched in value to the back but I do not understand why this sometimes happens and is not consistent.

I do not have the "cancel remaining when matched" opton ticked.

Could somebody explain what is happening please ?

This is a combination of the nature of the market and a feature of BA. If you place £100 into the market sometimes it will get matched in one go and other times people will take chunks of it. Whichever occurs, as soon as part or all of the bet is matched then BA will cancel the remaining and fire in the amount that was matched at your predetermined offset.

I must admit that tkp persuaded me to try the tick offset but I got a bit frustrated with only getting 67p of my £100 matched so have given up on it and trade manually. Exactly the situation you have described - it works great when you are matched in one go, but otherwise I was losing potential profit.

This is starting to annoy me too Pedromole....got £100 at front of queue and someone is betting in pennies so you lose your great position in the queue and the profit.

I understand that this feature is annoying you. I will be making this feature optional and even let you specify what percentage you want to be matched before it fires the offset bet (eg. you specify 50% using £100 stakes so that the offset bet doesn't fire until you have at least £50 matched).

Here is another suggestion.

Why not let BA fire the bet matched without cancelling the remaining as an option. In this way if only £10 of the £100 is matched BA will fire the £10 offset leaving you £90 still waiting to be matched. This way you can remain in front of the queue and say £40 is matched this time, BA fires the £40 offset leaving you with the remaining £50.

A good suggestion. I will implement the percentage option first and add this option later as it will require a lot more coding/testing.

Thanks for the replies

but I still can't see why sometimes with a bet of say £100 I see matches of £30, £40 and £30 pounds and then the offset is fired and other times the offset is fired as soon as say the first £30 is matched and the remaining bet cancelled :?

Sometimes your bet is partially matched as soon as it is processed and therefore the cancellation and tick offset bet is fired immediately, other times it is partially matched after waiting in the queue for a while. In either case if the bet is partially matched then the remainder is cancelled and the tick offset bet is fired using the matched stake. Are you saying something else is happening?

I believe that my bet was matched in chunks until the required amount was matched and then the offset bet was matched for the full amount ie as if the bet had been matched in total in 1 go. However I have also seen the procedure you have outlined, ie a partial match, cancelling the remainder and then the offset bet fired.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
