TRIGGER A BACK BET IN RUNNING.

Postby cara » Wed Jul 04, 2007 11:12 pm

I am a layer in the 5-1 to 12-1 odds fields. Obviously my laid horse wins sometimes so I want to reduce my liability in running if the horse looks like winning. Is there any way that I can say put a back bet on a horse at odds say of 1.5 right at the start of the race even though the current odds at the start may be 8-1 but I don't want the bet to trigger until the 1.5 odds come up. If the horse doesn't look like winning, then the bet would not be matched and I would be OK>

Short answer is yes but I would'nt advise you to do it.If you layed a horse @ 12 for £10 your liability is £110.You would then have to place a back bet £220 @1.5 to cover your loss. The problem here is the horse reaches 1.5 in running but does'nt go on to win. This happens on a regular basis. To answer your other question,if you tick the verify bets box enter the stake and price you want but don't hit the enter button until the "suspended" sign comes down your bet will be placed and if you do it immediatly your bet will be closer to the front of the que thus improving the chances for a match.

Bezza. Thank you for the quick reply. I was thinking more on the lines of a backing stake which is equivalent to the lay liability thus reducing my liability by half. I am doing a paper test on a system and with the projected results plus a set staking plan, that feature would be of great help. Because my stakes are not high, trading is not really an option, so I believe any reduction in liability is a bonus

If you say that odds of 1.5 are quite often reached but the horse doesn't eventually win, is this for all types of races or more the sprint type? I concentrate on the longer handicap races. Does the same apply for those?

An unrelated question if I may.

As I am not able to write programs, is there anyone on here that writes for others. I need a basic program that auto lays favs. in set races to a set stake. Also that lays set horses/dogs in set races.

Thanx

Hi cara,In the above example the backing stake is the right amount to equal to the lay liability.I'm not sure how familiar you are with this programme but you can lay a horse with a 5p stake if you want.I don't know if anyone writes programmes for others but theres a few on here that will help you if you've got specific problems but not me unfortunatley as I am also a beginner when it comes to formula and excel in general.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean, that will just get the Back bet matched straight away at whatever best odds are.

You can only send the bet when the odds reach 1.5 (or whatever you want).

Cara - 'trigger' means that the bet (in your case BACK at 1.5) is triggered when the actual odds on the runner get to that price. In other words, you put the formula in place and then it triggers when appropriate.

Least I think that's the issue . . . :)

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
