Hi All,

Is there a way for BA to know whether a selection has won or lost? The reason I ask is that for the rest of this year I am unable to trade the horse markets during the afternoon because of work commitments. I am trying to work out a way to still work my system (lay my selections), on auto-betting. I use a staking system but it can only work if I know the result of my selections. As I said on a previous post I am no good with excel or vba, so is there a simple way of doing this?

Thanks in advance.

There are two possible ways that this could be achieved:

1. By monitoring one of the results web sites (like www.sportinglife.co.uk) and parsing the fast results.
2. By monitoring the current Betfair exposure - but this only gets updated after Betfair has updated its account records and so it could be quite slow, and you couldn't have any additional bets in operation at the time you were auto-betting.

Of course, you could only get results for certain types of sports - I am not aware of any universal results services that could be tapped into - but it would be good to get the results for Horse Racing and Greyhounds if that were possible.

Hi Alistair,

Thanks for responding. I was thinking of using the Betfair balance to monitor the results but betfair can delay things somewhat. The other way might be to use the betfair results service http://rss.betfair.com/. Again, betfair can sometimes take time to give the results. With reference to monitoring results websites like sportinglife or racingpost, I would not have a clue how I could get BA to read these sites :?

Monitoring the different web sites is not something that you can get BA to do - it would require Gary to build such an option into BA itself.

It can be done and I have seen at least one other program offer it.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
