connecting/logging in problem

Postby Mattmid » Wed May 07, 2008 3:56 pm

I've used BA with no problem for some time now on my pc, but being as it's a nice day I broke out the laptop and ventured into the garden. I downloaded the lastest BA and also microsoft net framework 2. BA starts as usual and the log in box appears. However when I type in my betfair log in, I get the following message

System.NEt.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden
at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GEtRequeststream()
at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.Invoke(string methodName, Object[]parameters)
at Betting_Assistant.betfair.BFGlobalService.login(loginreq request)
at Betting_Assistant.Main.doLogon(Boolean loginAuto)

I checked the pc indoors just in case and all works as normal on there so it must be somethign in the set up on the lap top I'm assuming. I do recall seeing this message once before on the pc but closing it and re opening BAt seemed to cure the problem. Any help much appreciated!

Check your proxy server settings in Internet Explorer. You may be going through a proxy which forbids access to Betfair's API.

1) Select Internet Options from the tools menu in Internet Explorer
2) Select the Connections tab
3) Click on LAN Settings

Thanks Gary, that appears to be exactly what it was. Is that usually set as default on IE? This is my dads old laptop and he certainly wouldn't know enough to be playing around with any settings. An old internet connection maybe?

All I need now is Betfair to sort their site out!

It's not the default. Maybe it was changed by some software provided by the ISP.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
