High resolution screen display problems

Postby Roger » Sun Jun 01, 2008 12:54 pm

Hi Gary, I joined this forum on Day 1, but have never had a need for the software until now. Now I want it, it looks as if it cannot be run properly on my machines. One is at the equivalent of 1280 X 1024, with 120DPI characters. The other is at even higher resolution. One problem is that some characters are too big to fit into their boxes. I can live with this, because I can see what the characters are.

But I have a worse problem. The Bets Manager seems to be locked at a certain height below the top of the window, instead of floating at the bottom of the window. Even with the full height I can allow the window, the Bets Manager is partially chopped off. The situation is made worse by the fact that the Windows XP Task Bar is two rows on this machine (it is three on the other!) I believe Betfair originally had the same sort of problems but they fixed them by some variable sizing mechanism.

The particular function I am looking for at the moment is one-click placement of lay bets in-running, at a pre-set odds. The Betting Assistant does this well by the look of it, but maybe there is something else you can recommend, rather than even contemplating changing your software to suit me - I presume everyone else is happy. I see that you have Betfair scripts on your site that look as if they would do what I need in Firefox, I'll give those a go. But if I find that I can do without the Bets Manager I may come back anyway, because your Excel interface is giving me ideas... Many thanks.

Move the cursor just above the black bar above the bets manager and you will see the mouse cursor change to indicate that you can resize the bets manager, hold down the left mouse button and drag the bets manager to the required height.

Oh dear, so simple... Thanks very much for that quick fix, and sorry for doubting a brilliant bit of software.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
