Betting Assitant sometimes misses trigger

Postby cooldad » Fri Jun 13, 2008 2:24 pm

Hi, I am using Betting Assistant 1.1.0.12 Beta, and use Excel to place bets. Sometimes, when I place an order in the columns Trigger, Odds and Stake, the bet is not sent to Betfair. I can see in Excel there´s nothing wrong with the order, but it´s just not placed.

Most of the times however, the order IS placed. Does anyone have any suggestion what might cause this? Thanks!

When you can see it's not placing a bet can you see that Excel is still updating? Is the last updated time still updating in cell C2? Is the bet ref column blank? If it is then maybe something is wrong with your triggers, what triggers are you using, the basic BACK and LAY or tick offset triggers like BACK-T1, etc.

Also, how are you populating the stake and odds columns? There have been problems in the past where VBA is being used and the values are text rather than numeric. If you are using VBA then check the code to make sure it is definitely populating the cells with numeric data.

Garry, thanks for your update. Although I am using some VBA, I am populating the trigger, odd and stake from using Excel formulas. I did notice that the format of odd and stak was not numeric, I just changed it to numeric.

I am using a straightforward BACK

Regarding your other questions, I have to wait until it happens again.

Garry, let me use this opportunity to compliment you with your product. I am developer myself, and I was thinking of developing a Java application using the Betfair API myself, when my son discoverd Betting Assistant. Using Excel makes it extremely easy to rapidly (even in-play) modify my betting rules. This would be a lot of work to program this all in Java. I had planned for a development project of about 2-3 months, but using your software, I implemented my betting bot in just over 1 week!

So keep up the good work!

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
