Help with UPDATE trigger

Postby Smokin Joe » Tue Oct 14, 2008 8:58 pm

Gary (or anyone else).

I have an excel sheet where the Odds in Column R is linked to the current available Back odds.

I have code that places a bet.

I then have some code that runs 2 minutes after the first bet was placed, and if a portion of it is unmatched then the UPDATE trigger is fired in Col Q.

Let's assume for illustration purposes that prior to me placing my original bet that the odds and amounts available to back are:
2.00 - £10
1.99 - £5
1.98 - £5
1.97 - £30

My original bet is for £50 at odds of 2.00 (as these are the currently available odds).

Let's assume there are no other changes to the market and 2 minutes later my code fires the UPDATE trigger, but the odds that I am requesting is now 1.99 (as that is the new current available odds).

That is what I want to happen, but I would like the UPDATE trigger not to have any impact from now on so that I can give the 1.99 request 2 minutes to match fully.

Instead what happens is that as I am requesting more at 1.99 than there is available, my odds cell then changes to 1.98, and as the UPDATE trigger is still there on the sheet my unmatched portion of my request at 1.99 is immediately changed to 1.98, which is then immediately changed to 1.97 etc

Can someone first of all confirm that is what happens with the UPDATE trigger? So that effectively it could go all the way down to 1.01 so that I get all my stake matched as my odds value is linked to the current available back odds.

If that is the case, how do I stop it doing that?

Insert some code that says if Col Q = "UPDATE" then change to "some other non trigger text".
Will that immediately stop the UPDATE happening so that in my scenario above it wouldn't change the odds below 1.99?

Anything more elegant?

My suggestion doesn't seem to fix it.

I included a line in my code that said if Col Q = "UPDATE" then change to "PAUSE", and it did that as I was watching it, but that didn't stop me having matched bets at:

1.74
1.73
1.72
1.70

My original bet was placed at 1.74, and wanted it to place the bet at 1.73 but I wanted it to stop there, but it didn't.

Any ideas how I can get the sheet to do what I want it to do?

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
