Backing horses at SP within certain price limits

Postby RRanger » Tue May 18, 2010 5:47 pm

I am having problems in that having downloaded the sample Excel spreadsheet and substituted BACKSP instead of BACK and following all the instructions exactly the bets are not being triggered.I am putting in min price of 30 and max price of 250.
Under the bet reference column it is saying INVALID PERSISTANCE and at the bottom of the BA interface it says: Error placing bet:OK.
What am I doing wrong?

Backing horses at SP within certain price limits

Further to my query has the fact that I am entering 50p stakes (ie not the £2 BF min) got anything to do with the bets not being placed. I noticed yesterday when I was trying to get these bets on manually that when I clicked the projected SP column on the race market and the box opened to set my back min odds the submit button would only work with a £2 min bet)

Hi RRanger :)

here is a quote from an earlier post:

Hope this explains things for you,

2020Vision is correct. The minimum stake Betfair will accept for SP bets is £2. You should however be getting an INVALID_SIZE error. The invalid persistence error suggests you are trying to place SP bets in a market that does not have a Betfair SP. What market is it?

You must have been using the BACK-SP trigger which has a different function. It converts the bet to SP if not matched before in play and does not allow you to specify an odds limit. It will let you use below minimum stakes though.

Yes, Gary you are right
I also had an if statement at sp prices to specify the odds limit

* haven't seen the new BACKSP -LAYSP triggers...

* this is a suggestion, but i believe it would be helpful to add the new triggers and in general the new facilities in the appropriate help files also (except to version changes)

The market I was trying to place the SP bets in was the normal horse racing UK and Irish win markets.
I was using BACKSP (not BACK-SP)which I had read was to be used in an earlier reply you had made to another similar post.
The £2 min stake for SP bets suddenly occurred to me after my first post.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
