Macros in Excel

Postby boycee » Thu Sep 23, 2010 9:45 am

I have a macro enabled file that I use each day for football. I open the master file and save it as a macro enabled file for that date. When I try to run the macros it always opens the master file to run it. How do I save the daily file so that it runs on its own without opening up the master file?

Difficult to say exaclty without seeing your code, but I suspect when you open the master a macro runs based on the workbook_open event which then runs some code with the following

Application.OnTime Now + TimeValue("xx:xx:xx"), xxxxxxx

This will open any closed workbook to run the code.

An easy workaround is to make a copy of the master excel file without opening it in excel, rename and then open.

Thanks os

Tried to copy and rename master without opening it, but still opens original file.

Thanks os but I just cracked it.

When I built the original master file I put the macros on the Quick Access Toolbar for ease of use. Seems that when you copy a file which has the QAT in operation this is what is causing my problem.

I deleted the QAT icons and re-did the macros normally, then hey presto when you save the master as a new macro enabled file - it does the business. :D

Thanks for your input and suggestions os.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
