bets triggered after 'in play'

Postby tolly » Wed Feb 02, 2011 2:53 am

This sounds strange even as i write this, and i've restarted the question several times because of its strange nature. I realise it's probably because of my inexperience.

I have an excel trigger for lay bets (min/max odds) set to go off 30secs before the start of the race and stop once the race is in play. It sets up all the bets and those that are matched are fine. BUT, as the race turns into play, some of those bets that were outside the min/max criteria prior to race start and therefore shouldn't be considered are suddenly matched, seemingly after the race goes in play. I repeat that the trigger is set to stop once the race goes in play. It has cost me on a number of occasions as this late matching quite often gets the chocolates with one of the runners. The logic says that the price has fallen into the min/max criteria i set. Practicality says that the race has turned into play and the odds are adjusting at that time, and these bets are not cancelled in time.

I could sit there and manually cancel the ones before the race start and i have done this when i can, but that defeats the purpose of having the excel trigger me thinks.

Suggestions are welcome.

i made my own suggestion, by changing the LAY to BACK, i'm on the receiving end of the 'good' bets. :D

the proof will be in the bank at teh end of the day, i hope.

From your words you must change the way you "confirm" that the race has started.
How do you "understand" that the race has started?

Your triggers must be firing in play unless you are using the keep bet option, eg. BACK-IP/LAY-IP

How are you identifying the market is in play?

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
