Percentage Stop Loss Trigger Modifier

Postby gizzard » Mon Feb 21, 2011 11:43 pm

I just want some clarification on how the percentage stop loss works.

I know for a TICK stop loss that the stop loss bet is placed 1 tick below the requested number of ticks.
So, for example, if -SL1 is used when Laying with odds of 10 then this is requesting a Stop Loss to be triggered at 1 tick so if the odds fall to 9.8 then a Stop Loss is issued at 9.6 to try and ensure a match.

What about percentage though?
Say, the percentage is 0.5% and we are using the Calculate using decimals preference then 0.5% of 10 is 0.05 so the Stop Loss is calculated at 9.95.

If the odds hit 9.8 then presumably the Stop Loss is triggered but is it triggered for 9.6 or 9.8? Presumably 9.6 to try and ensure a match again. Or would it be 9.8 to try and get a match at the first odds setting below the requested 9.95?

Is my logic right?

I guess the same would apply if using a fixed odds stop loss of -SLF9.95

I'm afraid it only accepts whole numbers for percentages therefore 1% is the lowest you can specify. If the odds are 10 and the percentage is 1% then the stop loss odds are 9.90 (10 - 0.1). These are not valid Betfair odds though so they will be rounded down to 9.80.

Because of the rounding down to 9.80 then the stop loss is triggered when the odds go down to 9.80 or below so if triggered at 9.8 the back bet is placed at 9.60 to try and ensure a match.

It's different for -SLF9.95, but with the same result. The odds are not rounded to valid Betfair odds so the bet is triggered if 9.95 or below. The odds cannot be 9.95 so in effect it will be triggered if 9.80 or below and placed at 9.60.

In both instances the stop loss is triggered if the odds are 9.80 or below so there is no difference.

On a similar subject, if I get BA to place a BACK order at odds of say 11.6 which is not recognised by betfair as a valid odds, will BA round it down to 11.50 or up to 12.00?

Thanks.

It will round it up to 12.00

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
