COM problem since update - runtime '459'

Postby Spike » Fri May 06, 2011 11:28 am

Hello,

Since the latest update I'm having problems with the COM - on some systems I get:
runtime error '459' in excel

with the debugger highlighting this line:
Set ba = New BettingAssistantCom.ComClass

On others I get runtime error '13'

All worked fine before being updated - although they haven't been updated for a little while so I couldn't say exactly when the problem started.

I've reverted to a slightly older version of BA for the time being but I thought I'd better let you know.

Before reverting to the older version did you uninstall and re-install the latest version? I did make changes to the COM interface so it would have needed re-registering which only happens when you re-install. As far as I know I haven't broken it.

I downloaded and installed the latest release (from the new releases section of this forum) - the same problem occurred. (459)

I cannot find anything wrong.

Can you send me a spreadsheet that produces this error? You can take out any sensitive code as long as it still produces the error.

Also did you do an uninstall before you opened the installation file?

I'll double check after racing today but when I first encountered the problem I checked with the BA_Test_Com (or whatever it's called) sheet and got the same error. I certainly un-installed before re-installing in every case.

I have 4 servers of various specs and a home laptop, in all cases I got errors, the servers were all 459 and the laptop was 13.

I'll confirm the above and post more details later.

I've now replicated the error. I'll get back to you as soon as possible. It might just be that you need to make a simple change to your spreadsheets.

This is weird. It must be because I have added a new event.

The following worked for me. Where you have declared the instance, eg. "Dim WithEvents ba As BettingAssistantCom.ComClass". Remove this line and re-insert it.

Sorry for the delay, I've just started looking at this again. I tried your solution and it partly worked - but not completely.

If I remove and re-insert the line you suggested then the code executes without any error messages and the account balance is updated but no prices are imported. I'm testing this using the Test_Com sample sheet.

I've seen a problem like this before - in the past I've found that this happens if I close one COM sheet which has been running then open and start another. I found that I would have to re-start BA to make it work. This doesn't seem to work for me now on the updated BA I don't know whether that gives you any clues.

Just FYI - all other aspects of the sheet work fine, it selects markets, places bets ect, it just doesn't show any imported prices.

Try removing the code for pricesUpdated event then re-insert it. Does that make any difference?

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to work.

Gary - If you struggle to replicate the problem I don't mind giving you log-in details for one of my servers so you can see it first hand, but that would have to be tomorrow morning.

Great. That would be really helpful. I've seen the same problem on somebody else's PC, but didn't have enough time. I am sure given enough time with a PC exhibiting this problem I can find the solution.

It would be ideal if you give me access from 6.00am as I am an early bird.

No problem - if I PM you the credentials is that adequately secure?

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
