Reloading Market and/or Detecting BF Intervention from Excel

Postby GoB » Fri Oct 19, 2012 5:39 pm

The markets I play in (Golf / Cycling) tend to be prone to periodic Betfair intervention when In-Play to re-order market selections so that the favourites are always near the top or (in the case of Cycling) to add market selections if they become contenders and weren't originally listed. In both cases Betfair suspends, amends the market and then un-suspends

What I want to do is
a) detect when this happens and
b) have the option to reload the market within my Excel application (without having to manually navigate and reload in the Gruss application)

I can't find any way to directly detect a change in the market selections but I do know when the market is Suspended from cell F2 so that's the next best thing

It seems as though it is possible to reload the market using the COM interface (although I have no experience with this) :

openMarket(eventId:integer,exchangeId:integer): string

eventId - obtained from cell N3
exchangeId - I can't see where I would pick this up from but it's usually going to be 1 for me

Has anyone tried to do something similar and does what I am suggesting make sense ?

This looks promising. Do you currently have a chart that can justify this?

Not sure what you mean by chart ?

Anyway, I played around with this, got the COM interface working straight away and hey presto - it does what I want

The openMarket function processes within a couple of seconds. To do the same thing manually (i.e. back to the Gruss app, reload all markets and re-navigate to the market I was in) took 15-20 seconds

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
