Using the "Update" Function

Postby vanbuuts » Wed Aug 10, 2016 6:39 pm

I have tried using the "UPDATE" function in the trigger column, odds of 1.01 in the odds column but the bet doesn't fire. It just shows "Cancelled" in the Bet Ref column. What else needs to happen for a bet to update successfully?

Not sure what you mean by the bet doesn't fire? UPDATE needs an unmatched bet reference in column T, it'll then check the odds against the one in column R and if different it should submit the change. Check the bet reference column to see if it holds the valid reference if it's a new bet with N appended to it it won't update it.

I just get the message "Cancelled" in the bet ref column and the odds are not adjusted

Has the bet already been cancelled or is the update trigger now cancelling that bet? If you have the odds column empty it will cancel the bet, how are you entering all your bet data, by VBA or excel. I'd check the order of how you new odds etc are being entered see if there's a problem there.

The bets are entered by formula. Basically if my bet is not matched after 5 seconds I submit "UPDATE" in the trigger column, and odds 1.01 in the odds column (to take best available).

I now get the bet ref with Bet taken or lapsed message?

Is the bet being cancelled though? The bet ref column would only show as cancelled if the bet's been cancelled, do you have fill/kill options on the initial bet?

Hi, no the bet is not fill or kill or being canceled by formula.

It's not really clear how to use the Update function.

Does the stake column need populating, does the bet time / ref cells need clearing?

Why is the bet showing as cancelled in the bet ref column if it's not been cancelled? Have you checked the bet ref to see if it's valid before sending UPDATE. The program uses the bet ref in column T so I've no idea why it's reporting it as cancelled if it isn't.

HI CS, equally confused - hence my opening question.

Possibly fixed this - just need to check an example when it occurs and report back

Hi CS, thanks for your help. It worked by leaving the stake cell blank - I was populating with the original stake

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
