" This advertised application will not be installed because it might be unsafe. Contact your administrator to change the installation user interface option of the package to basic"

Then I click "ok" & the install process is abandoned.

Im running Win98, have not got a clue how to get it to install

Anyone help, please!

The program is written to run primarily on Windows XP and you need the .NET Framework for it to run. I'm not sure if the .NET Framework runs on Windows 98.

As for the password nonesense, you have to remember that every single one of you enters your password into a free piece of software every time you log on without giving it a second thought. The browser you are using is a piece of software just like any other.

On the earlier program versions it used to work fine until I had to reinstall Windows due to a system crash.

I have reinstalled netframework , so can't see why it won't run now unless the later versions are designed for XP only?

Did you know that when you log into Betfair through Internet Explorer that your password is transmitted over the internet in an unencrypted format.

Don't worry about my program, worry about the REAL spyware that's out there.

Un-encrypted, yes. But over a secure (https) connection. So packet snooping is between the client computer and the server is not possible.

I'm glad your brought up the subject of packet snooping. Surely someone out there can use a packet sniffing program and monitor my program and then tell me if it is transmitting data to anywhere other than Betfair.

I take back my suggestion that it goes over the internet unencrypted. Apologies to Betfair. What I'm really getting at is that it would be trivial for a program on your PC to intercept this information, so not having a logon in my program would offer you no assurance, I could still get the information if I had the inclination.

Agreed. My earlier post was refering to this exact point. Installing any software can potentially open a nasty can of worms. If Layit wanted to steal passwords there would be much simpler ways.

I have a version which uses the proxy server. It's not quite ready for general release because it now places bets directly with Betfair and not through Explorer. The bet placements are lightning fast, but you get absolutely no feedback so you can get confused if you've placed the bet or not. You can view your bets through the 'my bets' tab, but you have to refresh them manually. Anyone who wants to try it (particularly to solve their proxy server problem) can email me and I will send the installation file by email.

I'm really keen to get rid of the Explorer part. It's using up valuable space that can be better utilitised with trading functionality and hopefully improved bet manager. Without Explorer the program will be really light weight and could handle as many open markets as you want. This is going to take some time so you will have to be patient.

ps. the bet placements are so fast I got it to monitor an in running horse race for 2 horses going odds on and lay them. I got matched

Got the new version thanks. One problem... when installed only the BF page shows at the bottom of the screen. Your interface kicks in, but doesn't show the horses/prices etc. Any ideas?

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
