Betfair charges.

Postby eightball » Tue Apr 07, 2009 7:07 pm

Just got this email, I'm running two bots at the same time, and the throttle request per second was on 10. Is this right?

Dear

Regarding Betfair username:

Following our earlier emails and communication in the Betfair forum and on the Betfair Charges page, we introduced the data request charging scheme in April 2008.

You incurred a charge in relation to usage on 6th April of £1.55. We have not debited your account today. We want you to avoid being charged in future.

If you are using an off-the-shelf API solution, you should ensure that you have downloaded the latest version of your Vendors software which should contain information about your data requests. Note that opening multiple markets and/or multiple applications may lead to you incurring a charge. Please contact your Vendor directly for further information.

For further information on data request fees please see section 4 of the Betfair Charges page which is in the About Us section of the website. Please email us at datausage@betfair.com if you have any questions.

Regards,

The Betfair Developers Program Team

Were you running any other Betfair application at the same time or using the website? Were they both definitely ticked to throttle requests?

I was only running one BA with two pages open dogs and horses. I did have the BF site open but not all day.

I can't see how you could possibly incur the charge if only running one instance and that one instance was throttled to 10 requests per second. Could you email datausage@betfair.com and request a breakdown of the requests.

These charges seem to be all over the place- the system just seems not to work. I go over the limit every day, I'm frequently WAY over (much more than my comission could cover) but I've only ever been charged once- and even then they waived it so it wouldn't surprise me if you can get stung without being over at all. Personally I've stopped worrying and learned to love the refresh rate.....

It turns out eightball's charges were for non API requests. Be careful when using the website or any other application at the same time as Betting Assistant, all requests count and website requests are twice as expensive.

Thanks for the heads up, I had the same thing and that probably explains why. I never bothered because it was only the once and they didn't charge but it is handy to know.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
