UPDATE updating itself

Postby Timstertoo » Mon Apr 05, 2010 3:08 pm

I did a search as I assumed others would've had this problem too but couldn't find anything, if it was posted earlier my apologies!

I have a trigger setup where I use the UPDATE function in combination with minusTicks to jump ahead of the queue.

If I use below minimum stakes this works fine as it's not visible. But if I use minimum stakes or higher I start updating myself and the back bet just keeps moving itself down in odds.

Same happens when I use below minimum stakes and I hit a spot where another minimum stake is hidden. Together we become visible so I move down one, the other one becomes invisible again so I jump up again. Making us visible and me jumping down again. You get the picture! :)

Now I'm only using below minimum stakes for testing purposes so I need to solve this as I obviously want to use highest stakes possible and don't want to get into trouble with Betfair for abusing the below minimum stakes continuously.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :D

Forgot to mention a solution I tried.

I changed sheet2 to MyBets and do a VLOOKUP to get a column on sheet one that gives me the odds of the unmatched bet of that selection. I also have a column that gives me a "U" if there's an unmatched bet.

I first compare the LayOdds1 to the matched odds before I do update. So if LayOdds1 <> unmatchedOdds then UPDATE but that doesn't do anything at all.

UPDATE will update the bet if it detects that the odds in column R do not match the odds of your unmatched bet. I think you need to define exactly when you want the odds to be updated and ensure that the odds in this column do not change from your unmatched odds until you actually want it updated.

Can you explain exactly when you want your bet to jump ahead of the queue, eg. is it every time someone jumps in front of you? Also I presume you are using minusTicks to jump one tick ahead?

Thanks for that Gary, I think I see how I can solve that. 8) (will probably be back later when I hit the next wall  )

Yes I'm using minusTicks and yes I want to jump one ahead everytime someone does it to me.

I'm going to try to make the formula for the odds so that he does what he does now when there are no unfilled bets, and does a comparison with the odds at which the unfilled bet is placed when there is an unfilled bet.

Hopefully this will sort it.

Then I have one more challenge and the first bot is done! :P

Timstertoo,

Did you manage to get this to work? I would be interested in how you cracked it if you did.

Would a fill or kill do the trick rather than update command?

Hi Timstertoo :)

I would also be very interested as this is something I am findind somewhat
elusive - bearing in mind I am not much above a novice with Excel.

No I haven't yet.

But I've just bought out my businesspartner so I've been swamped at work and have had no time to put some work into this.

I've added to colums through a VLOOKUP on the MyBets sheet. Through that I get to know if the bet placed is Filled (F) or Unfilled (U) and at which odds it was placed. But it's an ugly fix because I don't get the F until the U part is competely filled or cancelled after a partial fill. I need to smooth this out so I can manipulate filled and unfilled bets better.

Comparing that to column R should be the key to the solution but I haven't sussed it out yet. What I thought would do the trick stopped the updating almost entirely making it a sort of random thing. But my formulas are getting very long and one change often has unexpected consequences elsewhere.

So I'm also learning VBA at the moment as I think through that I can more easily isolate certain processes instead of going crazy with all sorts of nested IF's.

It's quite the learning curve, I wish I started with a simple back bot with a fixed tick offset! :P

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
