Why should he give his code to them to improve their commercial products.

It's good software as it stands and whether or not it takes an extra few weeks to complete is immaterial

There's plenty of .Net decompilers out there to look at how its coded, so accessing the code as it stands isn't a problem anyway.

I do know that any proficient could write a flow chart and code it from the program as is. That would however involve copyright issues. Free is one thing, open source is another. Did I suggest that an unscrupulous software house may steal the code? Perish the thought....

I also know that its better than commercial software as I use it in preference to autobet b1.

At the end of the day the program belongs to gruss and he will do as he sees fit. I have no objections to whatever he decides.

Just to let you know. I am still working on it. Just been a bit slow going. I've just seen the light regarding the refreshing. I am changing the program to get the prices directly from Betfair instead of through Explorer. So you will have Explorer visible as usual, but the refresh rate in explorer will stay at 30 seconds. The prices in my program will refresh at the selected rate. This should result in a much more responsive program without that annoying changing cursor and clicking. I shall be releasing a new version sometime tomorrow.

Gary,
It is very commendable that you provide your work for free. But have you considered a no obligation donation system whereby only those people who want to, can contribute something?

As your work is directly related to cash it is not unthinkable that some people may want to contribute - despite how tight fisted the average punter is

I know nothing about this software it is just an example:

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
