'IR Delay' data from Betfair as reported by BA

Postby Hovrin » Thu Aug 12, 2010 7:54 pm

Hi All,

I am working on an In Running system at the minute and I wondered if anyone can tell me what is the 'IR Delay' which is reported in cells K2 and K3?

Also, does anyone know how accurate the 'In Play' and 'Suspended' notifications are? Obviously BA reports them as soon as Betfair sends them but how close to the start and end of the race are they?

Thanks in advance.

Hovrin.

The in running delay is something like 8 seconds in football and 1 second in
horse racing. This means that each bet has to wait 1 second before it is put
into the market. Betfair says this is to protect bettors against the unfair
advantage people have that are live at the event. And before you ask:
There is no way around it regardless whether you use the webinterface or
any software.

Many thanks for that Milfor. That explains why some of my late bets have not been taken!!

Hi All,
I noticed that the response time of a bet placed in the ladder is normally 250-500 ms (displayed in the black area at the bottom of BA).
If I fire a bet in the spreadsheet the response time is mostly between 1250-2500 ms.
Can anybody tell me what the reason is for this difference?

Are you sure the difference isn't that you are betting on an in play market from the spreadsheet? The response time includes the in play delay so if you bet on in play horse racing for example the response time is always going to be 1000ms slower. There is no other reason for there being a different response time, the response times are recorded the same way so it should make no difference how the bet was placed.

Gary,
I just did some bets through the ladder In Running.
The response times were indeed between 1200 and 1500 ms.
The earlier response times were from bets not In Running.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
