BA Freezing

Postby Profiler » Mon Mar 13, 2006 7:45 am

Hi Guys,
I only use BA without excel and have had no problems until last Friday.
Saturday & Sunday I've started BA (logs in ok) load a horse market the programme runs for a few minutes then just freezes.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled but the same problem.

You are not on your own - BA has been virtually unusable for me since Friday.

Getting exactly the same problems as you - either can't login or when I can BA freezes.

It's a right pain with Cheltenham coming up - I would imagine that Betfair will crash sometime this week as I'm sure the fault is at their end, given the number of complaints on the forum.

Ian,
As you say It's a right pain just as Chelteham is about to start.
Do you know of any other software like Gary's thats available to use until Betfair get thier act together?

Cheers

It's been a bit better for me since yesterday. Still a bit slow and sticky but hasn't crashed or frozen. Ran some auto trades overnight and no problems.

Betfair is becoming more and more unreliable these days. I can see this continuing over Cheltenham.

Can't help thinking they need a major overhaul as every Saturday it becomes a bit of a lottery.

To be honest I thought the previous complaints about it freezing were down to people's PC's. I now know it's not after having spent the weekend wondering why it doesn't work :?

As you maybe aware quite a few people are having problems with the main interface. Betfair's server is definitely not working as it should. Basically when the program requests the data from Betfair it is in two parts, the header and the data. There is a timeout of 30 seconds set for receiving the header, but the timeout for the data is 5 minutes  Usually there is no problem when receiving the data but over the last few days there have been loads of errors. I have changed the timeout to 5 seconds and everything is ok, the maximum freeze time can only be 5 seconds, but obviously you will miss a few refreshes because of the errors received from Betfair's server (this I can't fix). You can see for yourself if you leave the program for 5 minutes after it freezes it will continue.

Sorry about this, I was totally unaware this could happen. I will be releasing an update this evening. It will show the refresh rate in red if it receives errors so you can proceed with caution.

Yes nice one gary,
Ive been having those same problems and have been in contact with BF a few times regarding it. As I have used your products succefully for ages I guessed that there was a problem at the site ( why they break something tht works is beyond me)
As you are better placed to know these things than the rest of us,....is the introduction of those ****ing colours possibly to blame?
Cheers gary

Version 0.99c released as promised. You can change the server address in the preferences. www2.betfair.com seems to function very well.

Hi Garry
Very many thanks for Upgrades 0.99c and 0.99d
Your help in addressing Betfair's refresh problem is much appreciated.
Betfair's site has been a 'real pig' for the last four days, and has proved costly.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
