If I have only one page open can I refresh at a rate of say 15 per second with out incuring charges. If so can I set BA to do this?

The min that is allowed by BF and implied into BA is every 0.2sec.
Thats 5 per sec / per tab

Thanks Aldropial. I was under the impression that we would get charged at 20 per second and that 5 per second was a belt and braces way of keeping well away from this. I reckon I must have got the wrong end of the stick. Oh well, never mind, thanks again.

If, when you first open BA, you scroll down the announcements before loading any market, you will see the notification on there. It is five refreshes per second per market so you could still get data charges if you were monitoring more than four markets at the same time with no throttling.

You are allowed 20 per second across different markets, but Betfair have made it a requirement that vendors do not allow more than 5 per second on each market, therefore to reach 20 per second you need to be refreshing 4 different markets. They do not enforce it by charging, but if we did allow the application to exceed 5 per market then I am sure we would be getting a demand from Betfair to change the program.

Don't forget that each market requires 2 requests, 1 for prices and 1 for bets so at 5 per second it's actually 10 requests, therefore it would only require 2 markets to reach the limit. The exception is when you haven't placed any bets on a market. It will only refresh the bets once every 10 seconds in that case.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
