Ladbrokes bot workaround

Postby doris_day » Wed Nov 06, 2013 2:27 pm

Ladbrokes are now aggressively blocking IP addresses for anything which they consider to be a bot. I use one to get their live prices every 5 seconds and they've blocked all my IP addresses. I've asked them to unblock them and they tell me there is an 'IP skip' in place for me and that I should contact my ISP. That's a load of twaddle. I've used a VPN but that's now blocked, so I wonder if anyone has a workaround for this.

They're obviously concerned about bots now they're preparing for their exchange and I'm wondering if someone has created a site where the Lads can be accessed without being blocked. Oddschecker is too slow at updating close to the off, so they're no good. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Can I ask how you were getting the live prices?

Also are the Sporting Life live show prices not a useful replacement for you?

I was scraping their site. Osknows coded a clever workround for me. And, no, SL are not a substitute.

Have fun.

Do you think it was the frequency of your "scrapes" that caused them to block you DD?

I was looking to scrape live prices just around 15-30 secs before the off. Do you think that would get me blocked as well?

Good that you got a workaround.

It wasn't a high frequency, just once every 10 secs.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
