Partial Bets Between Two Seperate Markets

Postby Powerstretch2 » Wed Feb 19, 2025 1:00 pm

Good morning,

I have two markets for the same event on one excel spreadsheet and when one market triggers, it triggers a bet into the other.

The problem I am having is that this is fine creating a trigger for the whole bet amount, so for example a bet is created in Market A (£100) and when it is taken, it triggers a bet into Market B (£100).

But and I'm sure most of you will see this coming, sometimes the bet in Market A is only partially taken (£10 out of £100) but my current trigger will still then place a bet (£100) into Market B, which is a disaster!

So, can Mark, Gary, anyone suggest how I may be able to get around this please?

I'm sure it can be done, because it happens when an offset bet is placed in the same market. I'd like to do it between two different markets on the same spreadsheet!

Thank you

You have to refer to the matched amount for the first bet. You can either cancel the bet after it is partially matched then place the second bet for the matched amount or place a bet for the initially matched amount on the second market and then place additional bets as more is matched. Which of these two options do you want to do? The solutions for both are different.

Hi Gary,

Thank you for getting back to me about this.

I wouldn't normally post, but this strategy is showing promise with small stakes, with which this isn't really an issue. But now that I am trying to scale the idea, I'm facing the problem as the stakes are increased and then being taken piecemeal. So any help or advice is welcome!

So, my gut feeling is the latter "place a bet for the initially matched amount on the second market and then place additional bets as more is matched."

Can I also add again, that this appears to be very similar to what happens during 'tick offset' or is this not easy to replicate in excel?

Thanks again for your help!

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
