Fetching markets-retries

Postby tolly » Sat Jun 09, 2012 7:13 am

What causes the program to be unable to get the markets?

I had an excel spread sheet working for me and left it running. When I returned, knowing some excellent results had landed was dismayed to find Murphy's Law had kicked in and the trigger had stopped about 2 hours previously.

I closed everything down and rebooted the PC but the markets will not now load at all, just keeps retrying.

i searched the site for 'fetching markets' issues but nothing came up. If there has been something, maybe a link to the discussion would be good. Thanks.

Hi,

It's most likely got stuck trying to fetch the Australian Market data which is on a different server.
You may have a bad connection to the Australian server.
If this is the case then a temporary fix is to disable the Australian markets.
Please see http://www.gruss-software.co.uk/videos/Stuck_Loading_Markets.html which shows you how.

Mark

Does that also explain why my excel spreadsheet is now not working after it has been for a long time.

i checked the error log and is says Excel thread is busy.

Hi,

Are you talking about stuck loading markets in Excel?

That's not the same problem that I have given the solution to.

Mark

Hi Mark,

I've probably confused a simple problem.

Initially, i had trouble with my excel spreadsheet freezing at about the 1:27pm stage on saturday last. I closed everything down, BA and Excel and rebooted the program. From that point i had difficulty getting the markets (Aus racing). Sometimes they would come up but with "reqs pending" and go no further

Sunday same problem.

Monday, i managed to get it all working for 1 race only, now it's back to not loading markets, and the account balance is 'stuck' "updating".

I've obviously got it in a loop somewhere, and i have killed the excel processes in 'log current prices', several times

Hi,

How do you change markets?
Do you use VBA code in your worksheet? If so, it could be something in your code causing it to get stuck.

Mark,
managed to get it working on my pc at work, which is good, it just keeps on churning through races doing what it's supposed to withou me paying too much attention to it.
however, this laptop pc that i'm on at home i cannot get the quick pick list to show, which then makes it difficult for the excel trigger to work.

in answer to your previous question, the excel trigger i aam using is the generic 'place_bets' on from the website. it's worked for me for years.

Looks like i can only do the punt at work

Just thought i would close this out for anyone who may ever wonder what finally happened and if it was resolved.

The problem stemmed purely from an internet provision issue. I was house sitting and unaware that the internet usage at that residence was capped and I was responsible for blowing it.....Ooops!

Obviously i compounded the problem by looking for solutions that were not required. :? I now have a happy little trigger working for me again. 8)

Anyway, if anyone ever has a similar issue, suggest you check any cap on the internet before reading too much into the problem.

Thanks for anyone (Mark) who took the time to consider my plight and respond.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
