Gary, I have withdrawn all my money from Betfair account.

Gary,

It is with sadness I have today withdrawn all my funds from my Betfair account - I have finally given up with Betfair as I cannot tolerate any longer the errors (small to large) I encounter on an almost daily basis from the the supposed No 1 provider.

I am hoping that Betdaq under the ownership of Ladbrokes might instill some competion and raise the quality of service provided, as an 85% to 90% uptime is not good enough for those of us who are depending on such service providers

Gary, you have dedicated a liftime to BA and thankfully you have a backup in Betdaq which means I will continue to subscribe if Betdaq can provide half decent liquidity.

Gary, you need to be concerned that the numerous and constant failures of Betfair may have a real impact on your business to the extent that people like myself and others will give up entirely relying upon those providers who proclaim to offer much but ultimatley let you down on a regular basis.

Gary, I am getting on a bit in age, and as someone who has spent at least 30 years in the IT Industry I have seen the market leader programs/company's such as WordPerfect, WordStar, IBM and Internet Explorer fall from grace, I am recognising similar warning signs of failure with Betfair.

Gary, your business depends on Betfair / Betdaq being able to deliver. Please make your voice heard.

Not sure what Gary can do about it tbh
IF Betfair want to self destruct then that's what they will do, you just have to keep moving forward and adapting to the situation nothing stays the same forever, today it looks like Betdaq is the future but tomorrow it might be different again

Good luck for the future. I hope it lasts a little longer. All we can do is try to provide the best support to our customers.

Hi UFO,

I agree with all that you say, but Gary, - Gruss Software - pays several £1000's a year to Betfair for the API access and as a client of Betfair he must be entitled to voice concerns.

Thanks

Thanks Gary,

You have provided the best support from day one - and for that I am truly grateful.

I shall use BA with Betdaq and see how things shape up.

PS A little background to my disenchantment with Betfair:

Since November 2012, gathering data for a football strategy of my own devising, it entailed spending at least 6 hours (many a time 8 to 12 hours) a day following football matches on Betfair's website.

In the 3 months or so that I had Betfair under close scrutiny, hardly a day went by without some kind of error. As my strategy involved large stakes for only 1% or 2% return and required accuracy and timely information from Betfair, owing to the unpredictability of the site, I was reluctantly forced to the conclusion that it was impracticable to pursue this idea.

I may consider Betdaq for the future if I can become convinced of its reliability.

I understand how you feel but I think you may be going from the frying pan into the fire.

The basis for most (not all) good strategies is solid and predictable liquidity. I doubt very much you'll get that with Betdaq. Its poor enough these days with Betfair in many cases, let alone Betdaq.
Don't get me wrong, Betfair piss me off no end as they appear to be taking an excellent model and are slowly destroying it in persuit of profit. But don't allow a few bad server days to drive you away.

Either way, best of luck with your algos :)

Thanks Doris_Day,

I appreciate your reply, especially as I value your considered opinion.

There was a time you were going to leave us I believe. Glad to see you are still here...

Cheers,

I did leave when my original algo came to a halt but I collected more data and found another. This one also requires solid liquidity to work correctly so I'm hoping it will last !!

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
