There's no right or wrong way to do things and I doubt your current way has any negative impact on what you're doing. These day I just DIM a variable and store any flags within my VBA code so I can utilise them easily and bypass any unneccessary code when a flags set.
But early days coding I do think it's a good idea to have any flags echoed to screen just so you can keep track of how things are working especially when trying new things. The more confident you get with your coding/bot the more you're happy to let things run in the background.
