handle flags at excel

Postby Grisu » Sun Aug 28, 2011 12:27 pm

hi,
could someone pls give me a hint how the best way to handle flags is?
right now i set the conditions in vba eg. if value x<y then value z=1. after that i copy and paste the z=1 value to another cells to keep it 1. is there a smarter way to do it?
regards,

There's no right or wrong way to do things and I doubt your current way has any negative impact on what you're doing. These day I just DIM a variable and store any flags within my VBA code so I can utilise them easily and bypass any unneccessary code when a flags set.

But early days coding I do think it's a good idea to have any flags echoed to screen just so you can keep track of how things are working especially when trying new things. The more confident you get with your coding/bot the more you're happy to let things run in the background.

Thanks captain!
I like the idea of storing the flags in VBA. It feels a little more professional to lose money with a tidy excel sheet ;)
And let me add this:
I really appreciate that people like you help us newbies. It's not a matter of course in every forum around.

I find the best place for help is the MrExcel Message board but it can be difficult to get the help where the sheet concerns punting sometimes they just don't understand our needs.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
