Bet Processing Time

Postby Don K Jackett » Sat Jan 19, 2008 10:14 am

Hi,

I have just come back to using BA after a couple months sabbattical from trading.

I've noticed that on certain markets eg tennis, football and snooker it is taking 5 to 6 seconds to process a bet placement. The new black box which I've nticd says processing then tells me how long it has taken to place the bet. There is not a problem with my PC nor broadband connection as the data refresh is doing the business at 0.2. This is also happening when I try it on my new laptop which makes me think it is not a PC problem.

This is causing a few probs when placing bets in-play on these markets as 5 seconds delay can be an eternity in play.

Also what is strange that the inplay markets on horse racing still place my bets instantly, so it appears to be a prob with some markets.

Or is it something I am/am not doing properly ?

Any ideas anyone ?

Cheers

Don

Betfair impose a 5 second delay on most in play markets, it's 1 second on horse racing so is less noticeable, but it has always been there. This is not a problem with BA. The delay has always been there, recently I added a countdown display for the delay so it is more visible.

This is Betfair's reason for the delay http://help.betfair.com/contents/itemId ... ex.en.html

I should also point out that once you see the start of 5 second countdown your request has already been sent to Betfair's server, BA is not trying to hold your bet up, Betfair will sit on the request for 5 seconds before processing it. There is no way around this, do not believe any claims you may see on the Betfair forums, they will be on the wind up.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
