BA affects other Excel programs

Postby Roger » Thu Jun 19, 2008 7:22 am

This is not a complaint, because I found the solution to the problem, LOL.

I had been having problems running other spreadsheets while BA was logging races into my "Sheet1" spreadsheet. Every time BA talked to the spreadsheet, my other spreadsheet was interrupted, and the cursor was changed to an hourglass icon. When filling down a formula in a large spreadsheet, it happened in jerks, rather than in a smooth progression down the sheet. The worst problem was that Autofilter hung, and in one instance, part of the Autofilter menu appeared in the Sheet1 spreadsheet!

The other spreadsheet had been opened by double-clicking on its name, and this opens the spreadsheet in the same instance of Excel, so both spreadsheets are effectively sharing the Excel interface to BA. The problem was solved by starting a new instance of Excel, and using File, Open to start the second spreadsheet.

Hi,

If you want to get the best possible performance from Betting Assistant then I would not recommend using the PC for other tasks especially anything that might use bandwidth, but of course that is something you need to decide for yourself.

Thanks for that, I was getting similar problems myself.

However, if you open the excel file from a shortcut, you can modify the shortcut properties to open a new instance of excel each time:-

Right-click the shortcut and choose Properties, enter

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\EXCEL.EXE" / c:\filename.xls

The first part is the path to your Excel program, and the second part is the Excel file that you wish to open.

Now when you double-click on this shortcut, your file should open in a new instance of Excel.

Hope this helps,

Cheers

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
