Calling Gary - The new Asus laptop

Postby one cool dog » Wed Mar 05, 2008 9:12 am

Hi Gary

Would I be able to use BA on this laptop?

Are there any potential issues? I have never seen or used Linux, so am not sure. Also, would the processor speed be ok?

Many thanks for any technical help.

Processor speed OK, operating system is not. BA only works under Windows, this laptop has Linux installed to keep the cost low.
2GB hard disk is not enough for Windows and .net framework also 512mb ram is a bit low. Basically it's far from ideal for running BA.

I have been using the Asus eeepc 701 model you mentioned the one with 4Gig (not the 2Gig version) and i have windows xp , office 97, and Betting Assistant all installed no problem. the machine handles BA fine web browsing is very fast and office / excel work no problem. the whole install comes to 2.2GiG this leaves about 2Gig for other apps and files. The windows is not cut down as is the full xp pro version. The little laptop works brilliantly and i use it everyday. screen size is a small issue but you can scroll up and down the horse selections no prob. I also use a vodafone data card that allows me to connect anywhere over there 3G network for 15 quid and 3Gigs worth of data use.

any more questions just ask

I have the 900 series on order with the 8.9" screen it comes with linux installed but i plan on putting on a cut down version of windows, this model has 1gig of ram and a bit faster processor, will let you all know how it goes.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
