Q2 positive - refresh rate in seconds?

Postby Roger » Thu Jul 10, 2008 11:43 pm

According to the help file, a positive value in Q2 should change the refresh rate, the value is in seconds, so a 4 should mean that BA refreshes every 4 seconds, right? I tried this today and no change was made, still got refreshes every second. Have I misunderstood this function? On 1.1.0.20 Beta.

Secondly, I am trying to get two pages within BA to refresh the same worksheet, one at A1 and the other at A51. Does that follow that the two BA accesses can be refreshed at different rates by entering a value in Q52 as well?

The reason for trying to change the rate was that the recalculation of the sheet is taking more than 1 second (I am going to have to go to VBA!)

With two prices sheet accesses at A1 and A51, with result logging on, is it OK to log both sets of results to the same worksheet, Sheet 2? Wil results just get interleaved?

You have understood correctly how the refresh rate change works and it should also work in cell Q52. I cannot understand how it couldn't have worked, is there any chance I can connect to your PC using remote assistance and have a look for myself?

You will still need to log the bet results to separate worksheets or they will overwrite each other.

These are some useful articles on Excel/VBA optimising:

http://www.ozgrid.com/VBA/SpeedingUpVBACode.htm

And also this on how to speed up the calculation of a worksheet:

http://www.ozgrid.com/Excel/ExcelSpreadsheetDesign.htm

Help me a lot and now my sheets are pretty quick. Even on an oldish laptop.

My own personal tip, use VBA to fill a sheet with formula according to how many selections there are in a market and clear all redundant formula on any change in market. This will save Excel from having to process redundant formula on every calculation etc.

To do this I use cells(x,y).FormulaR1C1
or even easier as you don't need to change the formula to R1C1 style
cells(x,y).Resize(u,t).Formula

etc.

Try it! It's totally worth educating yourself on how to optimise you code and sheets if you are serious about automate you betting. Saves headaches in the long run and it's easier when there is only one place to edit your formula.

Good luck.

Gary, Ian, Al, Thanks for the replies, and sorry for the delay in answering - been away. While away, I have been designing on paper how to do this job in VBA. Only used it a few times, but last week I prnted down lots of examples of VBA code in BA-atteached spreadsheets, and I can get this running I think. So 1-second refreshes will be fine.

Thanks for the optimisation links - since you know ozgrid.com, this is ByTheCringe2 here, ex-Super Moderator for my sins. Well, banned for my sins, LOL.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
