Late Races

Postby Shaun » Fri Jul 25, 2008 2:37 am

Just a quick question, if races run late and they change the race times how does this effect the quickpick list or the race lists ing eneral?

Hi Shaun

I believe I'm right in saying that depends on how late!

If you have all races loaded in one quick pick list in one tab then the markets will load as per the setting in options eg at 1 min before the off,
this is 1 min before the scheduled off and takes its time from your pc so if your pc clock is not right then this will be out.

If races are starting approx 15 mins late then a race may be auto selected at the correct time (Ie 1 min before the scheduled off) and the next race may then be selected before the previous race has been run/finished.

The earlier the Auto Select takes place the less margin for a late race there is.

This is my understanding and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Yesteday 24thJuly was a good example with Folkestone? running 15 mins late.

This is why I have each track in a seperate tab logging to a duplicate workbook named as that track. That way each race can run as late as it likes without affecting or overrunning any other.

So if i add each meeting to a seperate sheet and have the same number of sheets open and have it set to actual off time this will fix the problem, on a saturday here we can have up to 10 meetings how will this effect system resources and and betfair restrictions or charges, or my internet download for that matter.

The only other option i can think of is to have a macro that send -1 to cell Q2 at say 2 minutes past start time this was you would just advance to the next race, you could also put in a percentage restrictions so you didn't bet in to a race to early if the time was incorrect.

Duncan, does having each meeting in a separate sheet help with the problem of races running late? You will still be betting much longer before the off than you would normally do, and I don't see any advantage except that the results logs for each meeting will be clearer.

And Shaun, I don't follow what you say about having sheets "set to actual off time" - how do you do that?

As far as I can see, having all meetings in one sheet seems fine except when the Irish races have the same time as a UK race, when two sheets will be needed. When the meeting changes the race times, even if those times then appear on Betfair, presumably most people won't be around to refresh the market list to correct the quick pick list - it will all have been set up earlier and left to run. And of course most late races would not change their times, they would just be late. And two UK races could now have the same time, so you would be better without a correction. (Duncan's separate sheets would be proof against that though.)

Under "Markets" and "Auto Select Markets" wait until actual off

Roger

Yes still betting longer before the off than normal. However I am blissfully unaware whether this impacts my bot in a good way or a bad way!

I use an increasing %bank lay stake with a 'laypro' type recovery method for when bets go down so results gathering is important as each bet is fed from the last across the tracks.

I also operate in both Uk and Irish markets so had to seperate the Irish and thought I may as well seperate everything.

I suppose seeing as that is how I started I've just always left it that way.
The only downside is that I have to manually reset it every morning to link that days tracks & workbooks which I can't yet automate as it's way beyond my vba/programming sklls!

Duncan, What happens if you type -3 in Q2 on one of your sheets - does that do the job? Or -4? If one of those works use the code I posted in the Excel Help please thread in this forum yesterday.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
