API Issues, Please All Read

Postby pugs » Thu Nov 13, 2008 11:34 am

Hello Gary/Mark/All

I was just setting up a couple of user profiles and when re-starting one of my BA’s it would not display unmatched bets. I had to close it down and re-start and it was ok then.

I know the API is currently suffering with a few issues, I earlier experienced an issue with BA (and another app) NOT displaying all of today’s meetings.

I was just wondering if the BDP were aware there was issues?

Plus is anyone aware of any other issues we should be aware of? Please post.

Ps,
BA knew I had unmatched bets because it displayed my exposure correctly when I closed it down. It just didn’t show them in my bets and “profit column” not yellow. I did wait a while for them to display, and navigated back and forth to different markets, but had to close and re-start before they would display.

I have tried to replicate the problem but cannot.

Hi,

Betfair were aware of the issues today.

They have posted the following message on their API System Status page:-

Problems Retrieving Markets
The earlier problems that some API users experienced with the getEvents and getAllMarkets API services have now been rectified.

The problem related to a configuration issue with some of our API servers.

As a result, the getEvents and getAllMarkets menu were not being populated correctly.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused

Cheers Mark

Hopefully the displaying of unmatched bets was just a glitch. I was playing around with my BA at the time (probably not wise when the API is unpredictable) But all seems fine now.

Thank you.

Hello Mark, I had a lot of API problems last night. Especially with the CANCEL command not working in some markets and the P&L not reflecting my positions.

Can "the P&L not reflecting my positions"-problem be explained by the getEvents and getAllMarkets commands?

I want to know for sure because when the P&L is not updated there is a high risk of unlimited staking in my excel sheets.

Thank you!

regards,
Mike

I wasn't aware there were any API issues last night.

What settings have you got in 'Performance options' under the Options menu?

When you say the P&L is not updated in Excel is the P&L updated in Betting Assistant?

When the CANCEL trigger does not appear to work does the spreadsheet still appear to be updating (ie. is the last updated time changing?)
Is the bet ref column in Excel populated with a bet ref to cancel and is this bet reference visible in BA?

Mike had you been running your Excel all day?
Because I had issues with another excel app until I rebooted it after Betfair had restarted the API on the afternoon of the 12th.
I’m guessing but I think Betfair recoded something when they shut the API down on the afternoon.

Hi Gary,

The problems were on wednesday 12 november.

My settings are automatically adjust.

I am for 99% sure that the P&L was not updated in BA as well.

Yes the spreadsheet was updating, even the odds and volumes matched were updating.

Yes there was a betref, although it disappears after a few seconds and is replaced by "CANCELLED". I don't know if the betreference was vissible in BA.

regards,
Mike

Hi Pugs,

Indeed I started BA and Excel in the morning and let it run all day!

Still I think it is a very high risk if the P&L is not updated since in my situation it can result in unlimited staking in the particular market. Even if it happens only once a year, you can go bankrupt on it.

A safetynet could be if Betfair introduces a staking limit per market, adjustable in the account by the user. I will send a request for this to the help desk but in my experience they are not very co-operative with requests. Maybe if other users make the request as well?

regards,
Mike

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
