Leaving BA running when going on holiday

Postby Steve Voltage » Sat Jan 03, 2009 12:29 pm

Going on holiday soon for ten days and would like to have BA continue to place bets for me. I intend to use this acer netbook http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-Aspire-One ... =de_a_smtd

Am i right in saying it will be possible to program the bios to turn the netbook on at 11:00am and then turn its self off at 21:25pm ? or would it be better to leave the netbook on 24hrs? The problem would be that occasionally i lose my broadband connection and have to rebbot the modem, so the on/off idea is probably best. Any ideas/tips about leaving your pc/netbook on would very much appreciated. Arnold.

Hi Arnold,

I use this program, it's not free but it works really well. It was the first I tried and because it was good I just bought it. There is a 30 day trial too, which is nice....

I just have everything setup BA and then just Hibernate my computer. So at the pre-set time it just switches on just does its thing and then just Hibernates at a scheduled time and the loop continues etc.. Really simple but effective...

Auto Poweron & Shutdown - http://www.lifsoft.com/index.html

I would also recommend Logmein Free too as a useful tool to remotely connect to your computer from any Internet browser to check on progress etc.... https://secure.logmein.com/products/free/

Cheers,

Al

I agree with the poster regarding Remote Connections but if you dont want to connect remotely simply leave your computer on 24/7. I have for over 7 years without any problems at all.

7 years wow! the reason i cant leave on 24/7 is the occasional modem drop out and i have to reboot, unless you have any ideas to get around this please?

I have no problems with BA reconnecting. Try disabling Norton firewall and just use windows Firewall for now and see if that helps.

For the record I just use Windows Firewall.

I wouldn't recommend this acer laptop as i already have a problem with the clock losing time, a common problem its seems with acer computers  This has been causing major problems with my "AUTOMATED" betting causing me to lose a few quid   [/b] Automating my bets seems to cause more problems than it's worth!!

I've just downloaded the free atomic clock that should sort this problem. Another handy must have tool for auto betting imo. :)

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
