Does anyone remember this spreadsheet?

Postby milfor » Fri Jun 19, 2009 12:17 am

Some weeks ago I saw in this forum an Excel spreadsheet that downloaded (from Racing Post ?) all horses and the ranks they acchieved for the whole day. I used the forum search but can't find this spreadsheet anymore. :?

Does anyone have this spreadsheet or remember in which thread it was posted?

Are you thinking about the sample tissue price capture workbook by Gary? If so its in the sample triggered betting excel files thread.

If not you may be thinking about a workbook which I suspect was accidently put up by alrodopial, it was being hosted in the same place as another but seems to have been removed now.

Thank you for your help. :)

It was definitely not from Gary.

I have searched for alrodopial and found a spreadsheet but I am afraid that is another one. The spreadsheet I remember was very simple - only 1 page with all the horse names of the day and the result ranking beside them.

What do you mean by "result ranking" ?
The sheet was downloading and update the results at the end of day?

Here's a fast link from RP for today's results:
http://www.racingpost.com/horses/result ... 2009-06-20

The sheet must download today's runners (BA or RP) and at the end of day must download the results and assign the correct result to the correct horse.
Any ideas?

If you are looking for just a list of runners and their position in the race the above link is a very good way to get them.
What are you looking for?

The problem is: How do I get the information of the page into Excel cells?

You can cut and paste the information into an Excel worksheet, then do another cut and paste to get the righthand group of data under the lefthand group.

Cut and paste doesn't work. Excel puts everything in the same cell. :(

The spreadsheet that I found in this forum downloaded everything automatically into seperate cells. If I only could remember in which thread it was.

You can do it using web query from excel.Google it
Also take a look here:

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
