Slow processing of Betfair?

Postby keesbart » Wed Apr 21, 2010 10:07 pm

Hi, today I noticed that the Betfairtrading lasted much longer than the race itself. It saw it 2 times today.

1. Catt 14:35 (UK time). This is a 7 furlong race that would normaly last about 1 min. 20 seconds. The betting was suspended after 6 min. 10 seconds. During this time betting was still going on. At the end the winner was not shown.
2. Sthl 17:50. This is a 3M race that would normaly last about 6 minutes. The betting was suspende after 11 min. 15 seconds.

In both cases a lot of transactions were placed and matched till the end.
Can somebody tell me what the reason for this can be? Are the Betfair computers sometimes not fast enough to process the transactions? For In Play betting this is a problem.
I have screenshots of both races.

Both races were a photo finish (I think) so the betting will carry on until the result is known.

I can’t remember witch races were photo finishes but there was also at least one stewards inquiry, and they can often last 5-15 minutes on average with the in-running betting re-opened and continuing for the duration.

Thanks for your reply. Now I understand what was the problem. I did not know that after a photo finish the betting goes on.

Reminds me of a story I heard recently (probably off the telly) were somone layed a horse for £10k and it looked like it had just scraped a win by the narrowest of margins. A photo was called which went on for ages so he layed off the other horse in an attempt to reduce potential losses. After 20mins or so a dead heat was called....

Gutted!

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
