i think that
/ = the horse finished 9th place or lower
- = the horse has not run for a season in this country

i found this also
"-" Seperates years i.e. 2010 and 2009, whilst "/" seperates seasons

probably this is right?

In the form sequence 2P/308-F the "-" separates the current season from the previous season, while the "/" separates the previous season from earlier form.

While I am not sure what exaclty means
while the "/" separates the previous season from earlier form.
probably due "translation" weakness

for my purposes is enough that it has nothing to do with the placement of horse so it is a big help

Thank you very much Craig

I think these are the correct form abbreviations

1-9 the position the horse finished in a race
0 finished outside the top 9
P pulled up
F fell
R refusal
B brought down
U unseated rider
- separates years, e.g. '12-34' could indicate finished 2nd in Dec 2009 then 3rd in Jan 2010
/ separates racing seasons, i.e. left of / is form for the previous season

I was always led to believe that
- Was to indicate what was last seasons and what it this seasons form
/ Was indicating a whole season had been missed probably due to an injury
If you find a horse with either or both get a Racing Post or check online and see what dates it ran on and that should tie up

Another question about form
I am looking for first runners (never run before)

Am i assuming right that when the form is empty the selections are 1 first time runners or is it's due to not data availability?

Thanks

It usually means the horse hadn't run under that code not that it has never run before. eg many horses switch from flat to hurdle racing - the form would be blank even though it could have run/won many times on the flat.

Thanks Ian
from what i understand i have to manually found the first time runners
do you (or somebody else) know if there is a fast way to achieve this?

The Racing Post has the abbreviated form as discussed above and also the full form if you click on the horse name. The full form should list all races. I can't access RP right now so can't remember where it is exactly but there is also a field named 'Days since last race'. Something such as 68 (13F) would indicate that the horse last ran 68 days ago for the same racing conditions but was also out 13 days ago on the Flat. You often see this where horses are given a run out to improve fitness especially before the jumps season.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
