Automaric updates

Postby bolpx001 » Sun Jun 27, 2010 7:45 pm

Hi Gary
I run a PC 24 hours a day which reboots itself at 4am and then launches BA and Excel to record odds from betfair at about 6am, 9am and 10am. Half an hour before racing it again logs on to BA and Excel and monitors the betting from betfair and makes bets.
By and large it runs fine but from time to time it goes mad. I think, but am in no way sure, that this occurs when the BA software updates itself from one version to the next. For example today the software hung using version 1.1.0.65n and when I restarted it sometime later, the version showing was 1.1.0.65p.
Is there any way that I can turn these updates off. I run two PCs and I strive to fully test my programming on one before I run it on the other.
Even if BA is not the root cause of my problem I would like to rule it out of the equation.
best regards - Paul

You can create another application shortcut to "C:\Program Files\Betting Assistant.exe" and use this shortcut to bypass the auto update program.

Thanks for the reply Gary
I use a program called autohotkey to script the automatic running of BA and Excel. I have included the relevant lines of code below and as you can see it already runs “Betting Assistant.exe”
Code: Select all
SetWorkingDir, C:\Program Files\Betting Assistant
count1 := 1
Run, "C:\Program Files\Betting Assistant\Betting Assistant.exe"
WinWait, Betting Assistant
sleep 200
WinActivate, Betting Assistant
Sleep 200

What I am thinking of trying is renaming "Betting Assistant.exe" to "B_Assist.exe" and seeing does that work. At any rate it will have to wait for a couple of days as I am off to Luton until Thursday. - In closing can I just thank you for one hell of a great program - many thanks Paul

It's definitely not the auto update process that is causing your problem. "Betting Assistant.exe" does not attempt any auto update by itself. Whatever your problem was it was purely coincidental. Renaming the executable won't help I suspect and you should be aware that your preferences are associated with the executable so you will need to set up your preferences again after renaming.

I rembered that I had figured out how to stop th auto updates, I renamed AUClient.exe and created a dummy one that did nothing. Unfortunately it dod not solve my problem as as Gary says it has nothing to do with BA I am now thinking it maybe to do with my virus software.
best regards
Paul

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
