different order of horse in 2 sheets in the same spreadsheet

Postby keesbart » Sun Jul 18, 2010 6:35 pm

I have a spreadsheet with a sheet for the winmarket and a sheet for the place market. I use data of the winmarket to fire a bet in the place market.
After a race is suspended I save the complete spreadsheet and the program moves automatically to the next market (Q trigger in the program). First sheet1 moves to the next market, and than sheet2.

Something odd happened. The order of the horses in sheet1 (win) were
different from the order in sheet2(place).
Because of this I lost the bet, because the data for the horses were out of sync. The place-sheet used the wrong data from the win-sheet.

I have never seen this problem before. This is the first time this happened.
Is there somebody else who also has experienced this problem or is there somebody who can help me to find what the problem can be?

Yes, it happens quite often. It's because the sheets are sorted by the reduction factor and these are different on the win to the place. You should use a VLOOKUP formula on the place sheet to refer to the win sheet

BA displays the order that Betfair provide at the time you open the market. It cannot be assumed that the win and place markets will be in the same order at that time. BA never changes the order after the market is first opened.

Thanks Ian and Gary for your reply.
I will check in the program if the names are in the same order when the program moves to a new win- and place-market. If the order is different the program will stop to bet on this race.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
