Account Suspension

Postby Mrs Bookie » Sun Oct 10, 2010 10:36 pm

Have used Betfair for several years and gruss for around 6 weeks.
Since getting gruss I have not changed my methods but have been able to place a lot more bets hence increasing my turnover and profits. I have now received an email from BF stating that my account will be suspended if I continue to place bets less than the minimum. They even go onto say that they know that some software allows users to do this (duh......only makes it easier & quicker). besides increasing my bets, which defeats the purpose of what I do, and/or taking bigger risks, which I'm not quite ready to do, any advice on a way to get around this. I don't want to lose my BF a/c as it has become a good source of extra money.

Betfair don't mind you placing a reasonable number of small bets, for example using small bets to test something out is never a problem. However if you're placing small bets to abuse the rounding system then you will be banned. Quite right too. If this is your game then well done Betfair. We are all obliged to play by the rules, you didn't so they banned you. Good.

He is trying to drip feed in to the market to confuse the bots who just jump over his prices.

Spike, I am not placing an unreasonable amount of bets under the limit, usually only on outsiders, eg making a $200 book, and a horse is 100 so I place a $2 bet. I don't know what you mean by abusing the rounding system (?). I feel I am being picked on for being successful as the email came days after my first premium charge email. BF have told me that they are cleaning up everyone who places bets under the minimum but this is clearly untrue as you can go to just about any market, any time anywhere and see loads of small bets which don't show up on the BF screen. I have been doing it as well to try to beat the bots who jump over every price with small bets, or is this the BF bet matching bot in action. If so it means that BF, as well as a chosen few are allowed to place small bets but not anyone who (a) consistently wins, or (b) is not in the BF clique. I also find it funny that although I've been operating for a while I only came under notice since using gruss. My question to BF is if they don'w want bets less than the minimum then why not make it impossible to do so??

I'm also guessing that nobody knows of a way around this.

You answered that in your first post "Since getting gruss I have not changed my methods but have been able to place a lot more bets"

I think the main problem is the fact "I have been doing it as well to try to beat the bots who jump over every price with small bets". Betfair seem to let it pass by if you're matching bets with undersized stakes but sticking undersize orders up is always frowned upon and rightly so.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
