Lay a specific price using Excel

Postby Herbie1809 » Mon Nov 01, 2010 10:07 pm

Hi All,

Hope you've all had a profitable day.

Excuse me if I've misinterpreted BA, but I've looked through a lot of other posts and been unable to find the answer I'm looking for.

What I would like to do is use Excel to place a Lay bet at an exact price I specify, even though this is different from the existing market price.

For example, if the current Lay Odds on a selection are 6.2, I want to place a bet at 5.8.

Obviously, this may not be matched immediately, or not at all. However, Betfair would maintain the open bet until race time.

I know it can be done manually using BA as I use it often. However, I can't seem to find a trigger that does this in Excel, or have I missed something REALLY obvious?

All of the solutions I've seen always involve Offset bets, but I want a simple Lay bet.

Any ideas??

Much obliged

Do you have an excel sheet you already use? It's easy to set the odds column to be what ever you want, either a fixed odds or offset from the current odds; but what determines when to place the bet is probably what's more important?

Ie. Is it for example

set odds for only certain selections
set odds for only selections between a certain odds range
offset odds for certain selections..or
combination of above
etc?

Yes.

Essentially 3 columns need filled
Q - is the trigger and optional modifier; eg BACK, LAY, BACK-F5 ...etc
R - is the odds, either current back/lay, offset or whatever you want it to be
S - is the stake

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
