Speed when running multiple events

Postby Manic » Sun Nov 21, 2010 11:55 pm

Hi,

My goal is to set up the entire day's races with my BA running on autopilot, however I've noticed that as soon as I get up to about 10 events open at the same time, on different pages and linked with 10 different sheets in Excel, the system runs really slow and the odds change maybe once every few seconds (obviously making it too slow to get correct odds).

Is this a software thing or something to do with my computer/internet? Does anyone have any ideas/help on why when I run more than say 10 pages it all slows down so much?

Thank you
Manic

Betting Assistant is very CPU efficient and can handle 10 markets quite easily, but you are limited to 20 requests per second before Betfair start charging you for making excess requests.

Each market requires 2 refreshes (bets and prices) so each market can be updated once per second if the throttle limit is set to 20. It is set to 10 by default so maybe you can check if this is the case. Select preferences from the options menu and select the throttling tab. You need to be careful that you are not running any other Betfair software or the website at the same time if BA if making 20 requests per second or you will incur charges.

So basically it's not BA being slow, it is the requests being throttled to prevent you incurring charges.

Do you need to have all the markets open at the same time? If you only need to be monitoring each market in the minutes leading up to the race then you can use Market|Auto Select Market from the main menu to load each race a set number of minutes before each race.

If you do need them all open at the same time then you could consider varying the refresh rates at certain times if they don't need to be at full speed at all times. See "Special Trigger Cells" under "Using Excel" in the User Guide. This will allow more refreshes to made on the other markets.

You can also read about requests charges in the user guide.

Hi

I have the same proble. Have 3 ecel sheets open and each refreshes every 30 seconds or so. Although I have the throttling and refresh rate correct as per your instructions. Any ideas??

What happens if we haven't placed a bet yet?
Does the bet update happens?
If so can you add an option in preferences that bets will not be updating / can not be placed?
It would be very useful if we only want to monitor / record odds movement.

The bets are refreshed every 10 seconds until a bet is placed. We do plan on having a separate refresh rate for bets in a future release so you will be able to change it to a high value which will effectively prevent it.

I don’t think BA is the problem as it should be able to handle 3 sheets with no problem. Are you sure your spreadsheet isn’t causing the problem? What happens if you try to link BA to 3 sheets in a new blank workbook?

Your problem is not the same as reported in the first post. Their problem is regarding refreshing many markets.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
